CRICKET

India Wins 1st ODI in Style!

Shikhar Dhawan’s impressive unbeaten 132 (20 fours and 3 sixes), along with skipper Virat Kohli’s 82 not out, helped India win the first ODI by a convincing 9 wicket victory against Sri Lanka. Batting first, Sri Lanka notched up 216 in 43.2 overs as wicketkeeper, Niroshan Dickwella top scored with 64. For India, Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers scalping 3-34 in his 10 overs spell. In reply, the visitors finished off at 220-1 in 28.5 overs. The 197* partnership between Kohli and Dhawan is the highest 2nd wicket stand for India in Sri Lanka with the previous best being 188 by MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir, in 2009. The Man of the Match was Shikhar Dhawan.

 

PRO KABBADI

On 19th August, Telugu Titans beat U Mumba 37-32; while Haryana Steelers won 36-29 against UP Yoddha. On 20th August, Puneri Paltan defeated Patna Pirates 47-42; Jaipur Pink Panthers won 24-22 against UP Yoddha. 22nd August saw Gujarat Fortunegiants outplay Puneri Paltan 35-21 and Bengal Warriors edge out UP Yoddha 32-31.

BADMINTON

PV Sindhu Moves into Pre-Quarterfinals: India’s Olympic silver medallist and star shuttler, PV Sindhu beat opponent Kim Hyo Min of Korea 21-16, 21-14 in a 49 minute encounter in the second round of the World Championship Women’s Singles competition. She advances to the pre-quarterfinal stage.

B Sai Praneeth Wins against Wei Nan: India’s, B Sai Praneeth won the opening encounter at the World Championships with a straight game win against Wei Nan of Hong Kong 21-18, 21-17 in 48 minutes.

 

FOOTBALL

Premier League Result: On 19th August, 2017, Manchester United beat Swansea City 4-0. On the other hand, Watford won 2-0, West Bromwich Albion outplayed Burnley 1-0 and Leicester City defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0. Liverpool emerged victorious 1-0 against Crystal Palace, Southampton won 3-2 playing V/s West Ham United and Stoke City defeated rivals, Arsenal 1-0. On the following day Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1. 21st August, 2017, saw Manchester City and Everton draw 1-1.
