Ahmedabad Parsis Celebrate Republic Day

Ahmedabad’s Parsis celebrated Republic Day on 26th January, 2019, arranged consecutively for the fifth year, by the Trustees of the Dhanjishaw and Manijeh Gamir Charitable Trust [DMGCT]. Nearly 325 community members attended the event which started at 10:30 am, with the flag hoisting done by Chief Guest Maj. Gen. [Retd.] Rohinton Jambusarwalla from Pune, who graced the occasion with wife Hufreez.

Trustee Aspy Bharucha welcomed everyone and lauded the philosophy of Manijeh Gamir, one of the testators of the Trust. Trustee Aspy Bharucha spoke of the late Dhanjishaw and Manijeh Gamir, praising their simple life style but leaving behind a legacy for the welfare of the Parsi Zoroastrians of A’bad. The flag unfurled amidst passionate rendition of the National Anthem by all present. This was followed by patriotic songs sung by Armin Dutia and Perin Davar. Having served the army for almost 4 decades, addressing the audience, Chief Guest Maj.Gen. [Retd.] Jambursarwalla spoke of his experiences in the Army. He urged the youth to join the forces and do their bit for the country.

This was followed by a round of games organized by Jeniffer Kapadia and Ariez Bokdawala, which had everyone participating and having a great time. A sumptuous lunch by Udvada’s Mek Caterers added to the delight of all. Giving the vote of thanks, Trustee Aspy Unwalla expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest for having come to A’bad from Pune, the audiences for gracing the event, the Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayat for allowing the use of the Sanitorium hall [Lalkaka Hall], and Malcum Bastawala of Mek Caterers for lunch.
