Seek Help For Mental Health

Dear Readers,

An unfortunate trend that has been on the rise in our community is a deterioration in mental health and an increasing need for appropriate help to restore it. Unlike what one might assume, this truth is no longer relegated to merely the ‘older’ section of community members. While an increase in mental health concerns is being noted as a worldwide reality, its impact on a community as minuscule as ours is that much more distressing.

Mental health is a vital aspect of our overall well-being, yet it is ironically often overlooked as it is still looked upon as a social stigma, even in a seemingly progressive community. Today, the toughest three-word sentence to utter, is, ‘I need help’. This reluctance has been claiming more than just one’s peace of mind. Mental ailments like anxiety disorders, depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disorders, etc., often go unchecked. As a result, there there’s been a steady increase in behavioural disorders, often culminating into suicidal and homicidal tendencies, endangering one’s own wellbeing as also that of others.

But it doesn’t have to be that way – if one only reached out and asked for the much-needed help for themselves or for those in need of it. Our community is blessed with great philanthropists and like institutions that have been supporting innumerable underprivileged community members at various levels – medical, educational, financial, etc. And now, for the first time in our community, WAPIZ has launched a fund dedicated to the mental wellbeing of community members. A truly laudable and need-of-the-hour initiative, it will surely go a long way in benefitting the community.

We are fortunate to live in more enlightened times and be a part of a community known for its legendary philanthropy. Help is at hand and more accessible than ever to raise you out of the mental quagmire you may find yourself or a loved one, stuck in. All you need to do is build the courage to reach out and say, ‘I need help’. Help is at hand. All you need to do is ask.
