Parsis Shine At NMA Championships

The 37th National Masters Athletics championships 2017, held at Meenatai Stadium, Nasik from 24th to 26th March, 2017, saw numerous Parsis making their mark as representatives of Maharashtra. Over 1300 athletes from 24 states across India participated in the Championship. Mehernosh Bamboat from Navroze Baug won gold medals in 100m and 200m run, while Fareez Vesunia from Dadar Parsi Colony won a gold in High Jump and Triple Jump, a silver in Long Jump and a Bronze in 100m. Arshis Tavadia from Panthaky Baug won gold in 100m and silver in 200m run.
Last year, Mehernosh Bamboat secured a silver in 100m and 200m, while Arshis Tavadia secured gold in 100m and 200m at the National Masters Athletics Championships, Lucknow. Earlier, Mehernosh secured silver and bronze medals in 200m and 4×100 m relay at the Open Nationals Athletics Championships in the years 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. In December 1999, Mehernosh Bamboat represented India in World Zoroastrian Games held in Houston, Texas and secured gold medals in 100m and 400m run.
Earlier this year in February, Mehernosh Bamboat secured a bronze medal in 200m and silver medal in 4x100m relay at the All India Masters Athletics Championships held at the Gachibowli stadium, Hyderabad, where over 4500 athletes from 24 states across India had participated. With this spectacular performance, Mehernosh Bamboat has been selected for the Asia Masters Athletics Championships, to be held in China in September this year.
