Secunderabad’s Chenoy Parsi School Celebrates Centenary

Established in 1919 by Seth Jehangirji Chenoy in memory of his wife Bai Ratanbai, the Bai Ratanbai J. Chenoy Parsi High School in Secunderabad, celebrated its centenary at the Public Gardens, Hyderabad, on 19th January, 2019. The event was graced by Chief Guest – A K Khan lPS, advisor to Telangana Govt. for Minority Affairs; alongside Bandaru Dattatreya – MP; and Mohd. Qamaruddin – Chairman of Telangana State Minorities. In his address, Khan praised the Parsi community as a micro minority community that had contributed greatly to India in every field yet never sought anything in return.

Ex-principal Thrity Bapooji, who was instrumental in converting the school from Primary to a High school and introducing computer education early on, received a warm welcome. Headmistress DML Vyjayanthi spoke of the school’s achievements in terms of several awards the students had received in academics, sports, Scouts/Guides, etc., and that the school, with a current strength of over one thousand students, had been achieving 100% results in the SSC Board exams for several years.

On behalf of The People’s Co-operative Credit Society Ltd., Hyderabad, which has been regularly sanctioning scholarships to deserving students of the school, Kerfegar Antia, Managing Director, presented cheques to School Secretary – Ashish Chenoy, and for Teachers’ Welfare. Ashish Chenoy thanked The People’s Co-operative Credit Society for their annual contribution spanning a decade. The Society earmarks 5% of its profits yearly towards a common good fund used for grants for education, orphanages, hospitalizations, etc.
