International Jazz Fest 2019 By NCPA (Day 1)

October 11, 2019 marks Day 1 of the International Jazz Festival 2019 presented by NCPA.

Dal Segño Trio Featuring LaToya Smith (6:30 pm): 20-year career, New York City native and band leader, Darrell Smith has played drums with globally renowned musicians. Mentorship from acclaimed musicians like Kenny Washington, Ali Jackson, Dafnis Prieto, Bernard Purdie, and Billy Hart. Performances alongside revered Jazz vocalists – Jazzmeia Horn, Brianna Thomas and LaToya Smith. Extensive experience with musical theater in Broadway and national productions for productions like ‘West Side Story’, ‘The King & I’, ‘Pearl’ and ‘Magdalene’.

Darrell Green Trio with Camille Thurman (8:00pm): DownBeat Magazine rising star saxophonist and vocalist Camille Thurman joins the talented drummer Darrell Green for a collaborative performance debuting music from their latest Horace Silver tribute project. Camille is an accomplished jazz vocalist, tenor and soprano saxophonist, bass clarinet, clarinet, flute, and piccolo player. Tours internationally with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; first woman in 30 years to work an entire season with the world-renowned orchestra. Performed and recorded with icons such as George Coleman, Roy Haynes, Dianne Reeves, Buster Williams, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jon Hendricks, Harry Connick Jr., and Erykah Badu among others.
