The Zoroastrian Dentists’ Organization (ZDO) commemorated its 69th Annual Scientific Meeting on 19th March, 2023, at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, with fifty Zoroastrian Dentists from across India attending the function, presided by Chief Guest – Shiamak Davar, along with Guest of Honor – Adi Jehangir, and many other personalities.
Shiamak Davar shared an inspiring speech extolling young dentists to excel and never stop educating themselves regardless of age. After repeated requests, he also regaled the audience with a song. Historian, philanthropist and ZDO well-wisher – Adi Jehangir, the grandson of late Lady Hirabai Jehangir, encouraged the dentists to shine.
Dr. Firoze Mirza, who was instrumental in introducing dental implants to India, was honoured with the ‘Most Distinguished Dentist’ Award, alongside other award recipients – Dr. Keki Mistry as ‘Most Distinguished Orthodontist’; and Dr. Mehroo P. Turner as ‘Most Distinguished Professor’. Chief Guest Shiamak Davar was felicitated with the ‘Most Distinguished Choreographer’ and Guest of Honor – Adi Jehangir as the ‘Most Distinguished Philanthropist’. Dinshaw Mehta was awarded ‘Most Distinguished Community Leader’. Dr. Cyrus Karkaria was installed as the next ZDO President, while Dr. Ruxshin Mistry took over as the next secretary. ZDO Treasurer – Dr. Sorab Jhaveri was also present to young Zoroastrian Dentists.
The speakers at the function included Prof. Dr. Porus Turner, Danesh Vazifdar, Dr. Gulnar Sethna, Dr. Ushaina Funibunda, Dr. Cyrus Karkaria, Dr. Taronish Bharucha, Dr. Jamshed Tavadia, Dr. Farzana Bharucha, Dr. Khushnuma Karkaria, Dr Shazneen Kandawalla, Dr. Rushad Nariman, Dr. Dilshad Mandviwala, Dr. Priyaranjan Oze, Krina Jhaveri, Zane Vazifdar and Jeanine Vazifdar.
The function was a huge success with everyone present greatly appreciating its well-organised ambiance and hospitality.
Established in 1954, by India’s leading dental surgeons – Dr. Fali Mehta, Capt. Dr. Nariman Vazifdar, Dr. Minoo Ginwala, Dr. Billimoria and Dr. Ratan Doctor – the ZDO continues to serve the community and the country by organizing dental health camps in rural places, encouraging Zoroastrians towards taking up dentistry and also supporting several Zoroastrians through their undergraduate and post graduate studies. This year too, a young girl was helped to secure admission at a premier dental college. These scientific meetings encourage young dentists to continue good documentation of their cases, present their best clinical cases every year and aim to excel in their profession.
