Revamped S D Mody Parsi Girls Hostel Re-opens

The S D Mody Hostel, at Worli, Mumbai, which has served as a cornerstone for aspiring Parsi girls and women, for over seven decades, recently unveiled its newly renovated, impressive avatar. This magnificent transformation signifies the spirit of true Parsipanu thriving within our community – in a show of unwavering dedication to its heritage and future generations.

The hostel’s ageing structure had been in need of an overhaul for a while. Subsidized rates for residents meant operational losses, forcing the hostel to rely on the generous corpus from the Mody family and trustees, supplemented by community donations. But even this was falling short to bear the cost of the much-needed extensive renovations.

In stepped the dynamic ex-hostelites, with the aim of giving back to the hostel, by rallying together to raise funds. Heartfelt appeals for donations resonated deeply within the community, leading to an overwhelming response, and this collective effort realised the vision of revitalizing the hostel.

On 21st April, 2024, the S D Mody hostel celebrated its grand reopening. The revamped S D Mody hostel now boasts 28 beautifully furnished rooms, ready to welcome a new generation of young Parsi women. This historic landmark, revitalized with modern amenities, carries forward its legacy of nurturing dreams and aspirations.

The event, brimming with warmth and gratitude, brought together current and former residents, alongside generous donors whose contributions breathed new life into the hostel. A traditional Jashan ceremony marked the occasion, followed by a celebratory lunch. The ex-hostellites reminisced about the support and guidance they received during their formative years. Even as joy, camaraderie, and an undeniable sense of unity characterized the event, it served as a potent reminder of the power of community-unity to overcome even the most daunting challenges. The S D Mody Hostel stands tall as a proud symbol of community pride, its resilience and the enduring spirit of its residents – past, present, and future.
