Singapore Parsis Bring In New Year With Pomp!

Over 180 community members living in Singapore, adorned in daglis and garas, brought in the Parsi New Year amidst much celebration and pomp, at the renowned Amara Sanctuary Resort, at Sentosa, organized by The Parsi Zoroastrians Association of South East Asia (PZAS), on 17th August, 2024. The eve started with an auspicious Humbandagi and rendition of ‘Chahiye Hume Zarathosti’ by the children in attendance.

MC Burzeen Vakil gave a warm welcome to all. PZAS President – Hormuz Avari addressed the audience, sharing PZAS’s various initiatives being taken in preparation for the upcoming Zoroastrian Congress 2026. This was followed by a presentation from Conservation Architect Jamshid Bhiwandiwalla from Mumbai, who spoke on the aspects of development and conservation practices over the last 30 years in the sacred town of Udvada. He also shared the history of Iranshah’s journey to India and the initiatives taken by the community under the leadership of Iranshah’s Vadadasturji Khurshed Dastoor and the GoI in safeguarding and showcasing the heritage of the pilgrim town to the world at large.

Next up was the yearly Raffle with lucrative gifts given to lucky drawees. One of the highlights of the eve was the traditional Parsi ‘lagan-nu-patru’, for which PZAS flew in Chef Zubin Rupa from Mumbai! Kudos to PZAS for a truly well-organized celebration, catering even to the careful transportation, particularly of the aged of the community, which was greatly appreciated. The eve concluded amidst much warmth, embraces and camaraderie. Here’s looking forward to many more such community events by PZAS and an eventful Zoroastrian Congress 2026 to be held at the Marina Bay.
