– 3 Months’ Salary, Funding Education, Job For Family Member –
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which runs the Taj chain of luxury hotels, has provided assistance including the payment of three months’ salary, employment opportunity for a family member, and funding of children’s education to the families of its employees who lost their lives to Covid-19.
The Tata Group-promoted hospitality sector leader joins the list of companies including Tata Motors and Tata Steel, which have rolled out assistance programs for families of employees who succumbed to their battle against the deadly virus.
During the 121st Annual General Meeting, IHCL Chairman, N Chandrasekaran shared with shareholders that the lives of 33 Taj employees had been lost and that they were supporting their families by means of providing three months of gross salary, counselling, medical care, insurance coverage, education assistance for the children, and in special cases, even financial assistance and employment opportunity for at least one family member.
Having kept some of its properties functional even through the peak of the pandemic, the group accommodated uncommon guests including frontline workers like doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, those belonging to essential services, and quarantined guests. IHCL has ‘Taj’, ‘Vivanta’, ‘SeleQtions’ and ‘Ginger’ as its primary hotel brands, alongside its homestay brand – Amã Stays & Trails.
The Taj Group comprises 165 operational hotels (19,425 rooms), retaining a total workforce of 25,906 employees, including 22,400 Indian employees. While 15,409 are permanent, the rest are full-time contractors and contractual employees.
