Parsee Gym Wins Talim Shield

Team ‘Parsee Gymkhana’ played like champions throughout the tournament as one whole unit and that determined its success at the Talim Shield finals from the MIG Cricket Club. Parsi Times Sports Reporter Binaisha M. Surti brings you all the cricketing action straight from the field.

Bravish Shetty’s master-class innings of 186 in 139 deliveries, laced with 20 fours and 6 sixes, helped Parsee Gymkhana (PG) win the finals of Padmakar Talim Shield Cricket Tournament, conducted by MIG Cricket Club, by a massive margin of 129 runs against rivals New Hind Sporting Club. This was team PG’s first Talim Shield Championship win as also their very first entry into the finals in 69 years!

Choosing to bat first, PG were on top of their game as opening pair Bravish Shetty and Akarshit Gomel put up an 86 runs stand. Bravish along with PG’s star cricketer, Suryakumar Yadav, carried forward the same momentum in the finals, contributing an outstanding half-century, cut short at 61 – which included 5 fours and 2 sixes out of the park! The talented pair of Surya- Bravish added 172 runs for the third wicket. Arjun Shetty also smashed 59 in just 25 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. PG put up a mammoth 360-5 in 41 overs. Medium pacer Sagar Jadhav was the pick of the bowlers for New Hind, scalping 2 wickets.

Hind Sporting Club, had now an uphill task of chasing down a gigantic total. They lost wickets at regular intervals and were unable to get back into the game as the run rate kept mounting. Sagar Mishra top scored with 66, Akshay Jambhekar contributed an unbeaten 45 while Parikshit Valsangkar made 38. New Hind were bundled out for 231 in 40.3 overs. PG’s medium pacer Shivam Malhotra bowled impeccably and scalped 3-36 in his 8 overs. He was well supported by skipper Raunaq Sharma who picked up 3-44 in his 9 overs. On the other hand, off spinner Suryakumar Yadav, left arm spinners Bhavin Darji and Akash Iyer took one wicket each.

Khodadad Yazdegardi Vice President and Cricket Secretary of Parsee Gymkhana, Vinayak Mane Coach and the entire support staff were equally instrumental in helping the team garner success.
