DPA Organises 2nd Shiavax Nargolwala Memorial Lecture

The Delhi Parsi Anjuman (DPA) organized the Second Shiavax Nargolwala Memorial Lecture on 3rd February 2019 at the DPA with Noshir Dadrawala as guest speaker from Mumbai. Earlier, Justice Rohinton Nariman delivered the first Shiavax Nargolwala Lecture in the year 2018.

The welcome address was delivered by Adil Nargolwala, Vice President of DPA, who recollected how Noshir Dadrawala had written a booklet in 1985 on the History of the Delhi Parsi Anjuman and his father Late Shiavax Nargolwala had written the foreword as the then President of the Anjuman. Dadrawala’s talk covered the history of ancient Zoroastrian Iran comprising glimpses into the Peshdadian, Kayanian, Achaemenian, Parthian and Sasanian dynasties; as also Parsi Philanthropy and challenges of modern times.

Speaking on Zoroastrian history he emphasized, “sunrises have followed sunsets, but the resilient spirit of the community has always been to fight against all odds… Disunity is what destroyed our empires. We can ill afford being disunited today.” There was ample audience participation and universal approval that every controversy within the community should be addressed keeping a fine balance of objectivity and full transparency.

The vote of thanks was given by DPA President, Ava Khullar and Joint Secretary Veera Mavalwala, followed by lunch catered by ‘Rustoms’, the restaurant in the Dharamshala, run by Kainaz Contractor.
