Hamburg Parsis Welcome Navroze!

In the vibrant and multicultural city of Hamburg in Germany, our small but tightly knit Parsi/Irani Zoroastrian community came together to welcome the New Year and celebrated Navroz with much camaraderie and joy.

Navroz was marked by prayers for good health, prosperity, and unity, where the young and old stood together in prayer and harmony. The vibrant colors and intricate designs of traditional Parsi attire come alive during the Navroz celebrations, with the lovely women adorned in elegant saris and men in white shirts, symbolizing purity – representing the essence of the Mazdayasnani religion.

Writes in Goolnaz Debara, originally from Jhansi (India), who has been working and living in Hamburg since 2019, “ Hamburg is known for its rich cultural and cosmopolitan atmosphere, and is home to people from various corners of the world. Here, young and old come together to mark Navroz, the Parsi New Year, in a way that beautifully blends tradition with the modern world.

This celebration is a testament to the community’s commitment to the values of Humata, Hukhta, Huvarshta – Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds – where our small community stays united, shines out, and does not shy away from praying, dressing and celebrate Navroz together. Our Navroz celebration in this small Hamburg community demonstrates that unity can flourish amidst diversity. Regardless of age or cultural differences, the values of good thoughts, good words, and good deeds bring people together. Navroz, for us, is not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of our commitment to a harmonious coexistence.”

As our community members come together to pray, dress, and celebrate Navroz in Hamburg, they send a powerful message – that traditions can be a bridge that connects generations. Navroz Mubarak, indeed!
