Poona Parsi Dramateurs To Hold New Year Program

In 1969, a few Parsi art and culture enthusiasts from Pune set up a body to encourage amateur talent amongst local Zoroastrians, especially the youth and budding artists. They would raise funds, by organising entertainment programs and events for the general public, and utilize the collection to help the community’s underprivileged and for charitable causes. And so was born the Poona Parsi Dramateurs (PDA). With a dynamic committee comprising President – Roshan Chindhy; Secretary – Myrna Dalal; Treasurer – Tehmasp Bharucha and members Mini Grant and Rukhasana Anklersaria, every year, PPD organises a Parsi/Gujarati natak and/or entertainment program, followed by dinner on Parsi New Year day.

This year, PPD has organised an entertainment program on New Year day – 17th August, 2019, at the Dastur Hormazdiar Co-Ed High School, Pune, comprising a musical programme with DJ, coupled with dance and stand-up comedy! The organisers have also kept a ‘Gara Raffle’ for lucky donation coupon, whose winner will get a beautifully embroidered Parsi gara from the famous, Mumbai-based Felinaz Collections. Lots of other interactive competitions and gifts are also in store! The program will conclude with delicious dinner catered by Jehanbux Desai. The event will be high on entertainment, music and fun, befitting the occasion of New Year! The members of PPD extend their greetings and good wishes to all for the upcoming Parsi New Year!

The PPD membership is open to Zoroastrians men and women from and around Pune. PPD does yeoman service providing financial assistance for the underprivileged, as also for causes like educational, medical aid, teaching skills to be self-sufficient, etc. They also render help to the differently abled. Such events also provide a great platform to local budding Zoroastrian artists to showcase and nurture their talents.
