‘100 Thousand Poets For Change’ Celebrates Compassion

The seventh edition of ‘100 Thousand Poets for Change’ organized by Rati Dady Wadia at Kitab Khana from 4th to 7th October, 2018, witnessed Poet Menka Shivdasani spearheading the festival titled, ‘The Quality of Mercy’ from William Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, with ‘Compassion’ as its prime theme. Host, Rati Wadia introduced Chief Guest and ethologist – Heta Pandit who recited one of rural Goa’s traditional songs, ‘Bhujang, The King Cobra’. Professional singer Delna Mody enthralled the audience with her powerful voice and reciting Portia’s speech on ‘The Quality of Mercy’. A song performed by J B Petit Girls’ School was followed by students performing the play, ‘A Whale of a Problem’ by Katie Bagli that added spice to the event. Other events included poetry rendition by students and Indian classical dance performances that synchronized with the poems. The Grand Finale witnessed music and yoga therapist, Vareeja Thakkar singing the famous Hindi song, ‘Kisi Ki Muskurathon Pe Ho Nisaar’ on the mandolin.
