Delphi Wadia from Mumbai has won the first place for the ToastMasters International ‘Speech Evaluation Contest’ and third place for the ‘Humorous Speech contest’, on 28th September, 2019. Headquartered in the US, Toastmasters International (TI) is a Non-profit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of promoting communication, public speaking and leadership skills. UPL has chartered its club in the Mumbai region in March 2019, with its first contest held on the 28th of last month in the ‘Humour’ and ‘Speech Evaluation’ categories.
In the Humorous Speech contest, participants were given five to seven minutes to write and deliver their own speech, based on personal real-life experiences only. In the Speech Evaluation contest, each person from a different ToastMasters Club would deliver a five-to-seven-minute speech and would be evaluated by the rest who would need to provide critique for the same.
A total of nine contestants were taken in each category, with two top contestants representing UPL ToastMasters Club at the district, city and country level. Delphi Wadia works as the Deputy General Manager at UPL Ltd. (formerly United Phosphorus Ltd), an agrochemical firm, where she heads ‘Learning and Development’ globally.
