Magician Zenia Casts A Winning Spell!

22-year-old master magician, Zenia Bhumgara, who resides in Mumbai’s Godrej Baug and hails from a family of magicians, is doing the nation and the community proud, by adding to her achievements in the world of magic! In the typically male dominated performing art genre of magic, Zenia has broken through the male bastion by competing in national level competitions and has cast a winning spell on herself!

Her latest achievements comprise two prestigious awards at the national level and a prestigious felicitation on 23rd February, 2020, where Zenia was honoured by the Indian Magic Academy, in Vishakhapatnam, for her accomplishments, at a glittering event – ‘The Indian Magic Awards Night’. Earlier this year, she won the first prize in ‘Mumbai Magic Fun 2020 All India Magic Convention’, held on the 21st of January; followed by yet another first prize at the ‘Maharashtra State Magic Contest’, organized by Adarsh Kala and Society of Integrated Magicians (SIM) on 18th February, 2020.

Zenia started performing magic at the age of just four, after being inspired by her elder sister, Pearl, who has been a famous child magician star, having set the record for being the only Indian to win the Junior Stage Magic Contest Of Society of American Magicians in the USA, in June, 2000. Over the years, with practice and training under veterans in magic, Zenia became an eminent, award winning magician. A Mass Media graduate from Jaihind college, magic was always her passion and hobby, but after her graduation, she worked towards making it a successful profession. Apart from winning several National awards, she was also awarded ‘The Merlin Award’ in the USA, which is considered the Oscars of Magic. In the past two years she has won 2 runner-up awards consecutively, at the ‘International Magic Extravaganza’, held in Thailand. She has been invited as India’s Ambassador of Friendship to Japan to entertain and cheer the kids in Tsunami-stricken schools and people in old-age homes.

Speaking to Parsi Times, Zenia shares, “I come from a family of magicians – my father Mhelly and sister Pearl are both world famous magicians; and my mother Kaizad is the biggest magic enthusiast in our family! So, I can literally say that magic is in my blood! The biggest reason I wanted to do magic was that my sister was allowed to put lipstick and makeup on stage for her shows and I too wanted to put lipstick like her! So, my mother said I could only put on makeup if I became a magician! That’s the funny story of how I became a magician! I started magic at the tender age of four and it completely changed me as a person. It brought me out of my shell, turning me from a shy girl into a lion on stage!”

“I have always been encouraged by my family to pursue this incredible art and I consider myself really lucky to be born in a magical family. I gave education equal importance and made sure to balance out both. My goal is to continue practicing magic and keep improving at my art. My dream is to have my own show in Las Vegas – the magic capital of the world! I also want to change the stereotype that only men can do magic. I want to inspire young women and show them that women can do magic and perhaps, even better than the men!” quips the magical Madonna, who has attended a workshop with the world’s greatest magician – David Copperfield.

The magician family – Mhelly, Zenia and Pearl Bhumgara – collectively conduct a comedy mind-reading show called ‘Mind Blast’, which they perform for corporates and ticketed shows. In August 2020, Zenia will participate and showcase her talent in ‘Magi Live’, the largest Magic Conference in the World, which will be held in Las Vegas, USA.
