Sodarwaterwala Agiary Celebrates 149th Salgreh

Sodarwaterwala Agiary, located at Marine Lines, celebrated its glorious 149th Salgreh since its consecration, on 3rd September, 2023, (Mah Fravardin, Roj Fravardin; 1393 YZ) with a Jashan. The preparations made the Agiary come alive, looking resplendent with its floral decorations and sacred energy.

The Afarganyu was placed at the centre, surrounded by sandalwood, malido, fruits and flowers. At 10:00 am, Panthaki Er. Pervez Karanjia initiated the Jashan ceremony alongside his recently ordained son, Er. Arzan Karanjia. The jashan was attended by a good number of community members and Trustees including Anahita Desai, Dinshaw Variava, Captain Percy Master, Aspi Sarkari and Limji Nanabhoy.

After the ceremony, Er. Pervez Karanjia thanked the Trustees, and shared less known facts about the Agiary – like how the Agiary’s real name – ‘Seth Jamshedji Dadabhai Amaria’ or ‘J D Amaria Agiary’ became popular as ‘Sodarwaterwala Agiary’ due to the business which was earlier run there. As the salgreh also coincided with the Parab of Fravardin Ameshaspand, he highlighted the importance of getting the Baaj Ceremony performed for our dearly departed and the significance of praying Farrokshi (Fravardin Yasht) in their memory. He also suggested praying the ‘Patet Ravaan Ni’, as an addition or alternative.

Another jashan was performed in the evening at 5:30 pm, by Er. Pervez Karanjia, Er. Arzan Karanjia, Er. Harvasp Madan, Er. Frashogar Madan and Er. Darbari. Here’s looking forward to next year when the Agiary will celebrate its hallmark 150th Salgreh! May the glorious Padshah Saheb bless our community with harmony, unity and wisdom!
