India Win First Test Against West Indies

Massive centuries from Man of the Match Prithvi Shaw (134), Virat Kohli (139) and Ravindra Jadeja (100*) coupled with a fifer from Kuldeep Yadav (5-57) helped India win their first Test Match by an innings and 272 runs at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot. Batting first, India declared their first innings scoring a mammoth 649-9 in 149.5 overs. Though KL Rahul perished early on, young Prithvi Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara (86) stitched a partnership of 206 runs for the second wicket. There onwards Ajinkya Rahane made 41 while Rishabh Pant missed out on a well-deserved century on 92. For West Indies, Devendra Bishoo picked four wickets. In reply, when the visitors came out to chase down their total, they succumbed to good bowling by R. Ashwin who claimed (4-37) in 11 overs. The West Indies were bundled out for 181 in 48 overs. After a follow on was enforced, they managed 196 in 50.5 overs during their second innings with Kieron Powell top scoring with 83. India have the upper edge going into the next text match.

 

Parsee Gym Start Police Shield Campaign With A Win

Magnificent batting effort by Kushal Shah (96) and Ashay Sardesai (70) along with a phenomenal fifer from speedster Shivam Malhotra (5-39) and young Abhimanyu Vashist’s four wicket haul helped Parsee Gymkhana (PG) win their first match of the Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2018-19 by a massive 133 runs against Sponsors X1. Batting first, PG amassed a gigantic 328-9 in 70 overs. Along with Kushal and Ashay, PG skipper Raunaq Sharma contributed 40 in 29 deliveries while Aakarshit scored 42 runs. For Sponsors X1, Khizar Dafedar and Dhrumil Matkar picked three wickets each. When Sponsors X1 came to bat they managed 195 in 51.1 overs.

India Beats Australia

The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey team recorded its fourth successive victory at the 8th Sultan of Johor Cup, winning 5-4 against defending champions, Australia, and getting a semi-final spot. Gursahibjit scored a fine field goal to give India a 1-0 lead during the 5th minute after which three more were smashed by Haspreet Singh, Mandeep Mor and Vishnukant Singh. Finally Shilanand Lakra scored in the 43rd minute to give India its fifth goal.

 

YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES

Our athletes continue to do India proud at the Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Jeremy Lalrinnunga clinched a Gold in men’s 62 kg weight lifting category; shooting sensation Manu Bhaker winning another Gold in the women’s 10 meter air pistol event; Saurabh Chaudhary won Gold in the men’s 10 meter air pistol shooting event; Tushar Mane bagged Silver in men’s 10 meter air rifle shooting; Tababi Devi grabbed Silver in Judo; and Mehuli Ghosh won Silver in shooting.
