Jazz lovers in Mumbai are in for a treat with NCPA’s International Jazz Fest kicking off from the 23rd – 25th November, 2018! Here’s a sneak peek into Day 1!
Friday – 23rd Nov
LOS GATOS AY MAMÁ (6:30 pm)
The first band that will be opening the NCPA International Jazz Festival 2018 is a Latin oriented band, ‘Los Gatos, Ay Mamá’. The band encompasses six people, including a Cuban percussionist Miguelo Valdez, vocalist Aditi Malhotra, a bongo player from Panama and the fabulous Jazz Pianist from Kolkata – Pradyumna Singh Manot. One of the finest jazz pianists in India, Manot plays a brand of music that’s authentically South American, giving you the feeling that you’re in Puerto Rico or Cuba or New York. For the first time, Mumbai will get to hear a band of this caliber.
BUNGALOW (8:00 pm)
The second band performing on the opening day of the Jazz Fest is ‘Bungalow’, featuring Australian saxophone player, Mike Rivett, who over the past three years, has been vetted as the Best Saxophone Player in Australia. Rivett is a talented dynamic and will be backed by a rhythm section from Japan led by piano maestro Koichi Sato with Ko Omura on drums and Kosuke Ochiai on bass. These musicians will be playing traditional straight ahead jazz.
