CRICKET

India Women Win First T20: Outstanding bowling effort from Team India and Player of the Match, Deepti Sharma (3-8) in four overs, helped the Women in Blue win their first T20 encounter by 11 runs against South Africa Women at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. Batting first, India notched up 130-8 in 20 overs. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur top scored with 43 off 34 deliveries, smashing three fours and two maximums. Smriti Mandhana contributed 21 in 16 balls. For the Proteas Women, Shabnim Ismail picked three wickets while Nadine de Klerk snapped two. In reply, South Africa were unable to chase the total succumbing to India’s brilliant bowling with all out for 119 in 19.5 overs. Shikha Pandey, Poonam Yadav and Radha Yadav picked up six wickets, collectively.

Adille Sumariwalla Re-elected IAAF Council Member: Arjuna Awardee, former Olympian and President of the Athletics Federation of India – Adille Sumariwalla, was recently re-elected as IAAF Council Member at Doha, with 121 votes. Sebastian Coe was also re-elected the President of IAAF for a second term.


FOOTBALL

EFL Cup Results: On 24th September, 2019, during the third round matches, Colchester United won 4-3 on penalties V/s Tottenham Hotspur; Crawley Town beat Stoke City 5-3 on penalties; Leicester City won 4-0 against Luton Town; Southampton beat Portsmouth 4-0; Manchester City overpowered Preston North End with a 3-0 victory; Everton emerged victorious 2-0 with Sheffield United; Watford won 2-1 against Swansea City while Arsenal thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0. The next day, Aston Villa defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1, while Chelsea emerged with a powerful 7-1 win over Grimsby Town; Liverpool won 2-0 V/s Milton Keynes Dons; Oxford United grabbed a 4-0 victory against West Ham United and Sunderland overpowered Sheffield United with a narrow 1-0 win. Finally, Manchester United won 5-3 on penalties against Rochdale.


SNOOKER

Pankaj Advani-Aditya Mehta Win IBSF World Snooker: Indian cueists Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta overcame a tough Thai team to emerge World Champions in the IBSF World Snooker Team event held in Myanmar. This victory brings Advani’s world title tally to a phenomenal 23, while Aditya bagged his maiden win.


BADMINTON

Kashyap Advances In Korea Open: Parupalli Kashyap was the only Indian shuttler to survive in the Singles event at the Korea Open Badminton Tournament, even as PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Praneeth made first round exits. Kashyap registered a 21-16, 21-16 win over Lu Chia Hung of Chinese Taipei. He faces Malaysia’s Liew Daren in the second round.
